NEARING THE END OF THE YEAR

As we see the end of 2023 draw ever closer we find that time has certainly passed us by quicker than we anticipated. However, we have seen many things achieved over the last few months so our team will enjoy their Xmas break with a flourish. Our chief Mentor, Ann Brady, has been busy throughout November judging a number of writing competitions both at home and abroad. From Romance, to Diversity to Children’s writing she has enjoyed the job once again; her fourth year in doing this. We saw two new books we have worked on published and launched via Pen & Ink Designs Publishing, our sister company. One proved to be highly successful and we are delighted for the author. We shall be issuing our end of year Newsletter shortly but if you aren’t on our mailing list and would like to be then please email us at contact@mentoringwriters.co.uk placing Newsletter in the subject box and we will add your name. In the meantime we wish all our followers and those we work closely with a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

CATCHING UP TIME

It’s been a busy time over the last couple of months. In late August we launched our Australian Workshop and that has proven to be a great success. Some of the students are yet to complete the course but as always daily life, work and family often get in the way. For me there is no rush. As a mentor I have been extra busy judging some competitions. Some for an Australian Writing Competition and closer to home for the BBC 500 Words Children’s Writing Competition. This is a side of my work that I really enjoy doing. As such the podcasts have suffered as I have also been publishing a couple of authors books. Hopefully, as Xmas and the end of the year draws in I will be able to conclude all my back log and find time to sit and write some more in my own ongoing writing. Till next time.

EDUCATION SHOW

The highlight to finish the week was a day attending the National Education Show at City Hall, Cardiff. It is a great show to attend as it gives a good insight as to what is happening within the education system within Wales. Apart from exhibitors there were a number of speakers on all types of subjects relating to the care of young students of all ages. This is one show I have attended for a number of years so if you are involved in education of some sort then this is well worth a visit. They have two shows a year - one in North Wales (Llandudno) and this one in Cardiff.

ZOOM CALLS AND THE SYP - SOCIETY OF YOUNG AUTHORS

Well what a busy week I have had with my Zoom calls. Monday and Thursday saw me linking with two Mentees - one in New Jersey and the other in Virginia, USA. Wednesday was also a busy as I was linking with some of the entrants to the Workshop I am running online for the RWA - Romance Writers of Australia. Technology really comes into it’s own in these cases. Of course, I have to say that the best Zoom link this week has to my having been invited to be on the panel of guests for an online chat with the SYP - that the Society of Young Publishers who have recently opened a division here in Wales. Between the three of panellists we were able to offer some great advice and suggestions to young people wanting to enter the publishing industry. I love my job.

LAUNCH OF ‘CHANGING HISTORY’

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Mentoring Writers 2023 Anthology Book titled ‘Changing History.’ The anthology includes a selection of stories in prose or poetic format where the entrant had to take a scene from history and rewrite it. We had some very interesting and unique results. The book is available on Amazon, at bookshops and from www.bookreviewers.co.uk

MENTORING WRITERS RESOURCE BOX PODCAST SHOW

It comes as a delightful surprise when, researching through Amazon, you pop your own name in to see which books will pop and discover that the Mentoring Writers Podcast Show is being advertised as being available on Audible. To be honest I hadn’t realised it was there and thought it had been a mistake. But, no, they have confirmed that Libsyn, my podcast show distributor has included them  along with Apple, Spotify, Google, and quite a few other quality outlets as destinations for the podcast show to be listened to. I even came across one that I hadn’t used for awhile and am hoping they will arrange for an update as it was doing reasonably well on there. What is more interesting is that the Podcasts are available on some outlets in the US which are not available here. It’s a strange world this technology isn’t it?
